BC health officials said the task of creating a back-to-school plan has not been an easy one.
Plans released today were the culmination of discussion in each school district, said provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix. And school will look different this year, just as other elements of life have changed and adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dix and Henry also announced 62 new cases of COVID-19 including two that are epi-linked. The new total is 5,304 cases in BC.
There are 896 active cases—an increase of nearly 100 from a week ago, but a decrease from yesterday’s 925. There are also 2,730 people under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.
Currently, 21 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, seven of whom are in intensive care. There were no new deaths related to the virus reported today, and no new healthcare facility outbreaks. In total, 10 longterm care or assisted living facilities and two acute care facilities have active outbreaks.
There were also no new community outbreaks. However, community exposure events continue to occur at other locations and on flights into and out of the province. If you or your family may have been exposed, follow the public health advisory. Otherwise, no action is required.
